What's going on! For those of you who may not know, the mobile home that sits behind the fire station is used not only as our spook house but also a smoke house that is used for training by both the Hudson Fire Department and Angelina College Fire Academy. We recently moved this to the back of the property so we could make room for news bays behind the existing station. With the new law in effect that allows City's to donate equipment to Volunteer Fire Department's, we are expecting delivery of a Ladder Truck from the City of Lufkin by the end of the year. With this newest addition we will need a larger station to house it. The existing bays will be turned into offices and a larger classroom for training and meetings. (posted 8-5-07)
Brian Smith would like to thank everyone that helped make our haunted house a huge success this year. A great big "thank you" goes out to the public that supported us this year. Brian reported that we brought in 6,742.00. We still have some expenses coming out but even with that we did well. Again, thanks to everyone that helped or bought tickets. (posted 11-30-08)
Well another year has come and gone for the Hudson Fire Department. We had a lot of projects and fundraisers this year. We would like to thank everyone for your support this year and look forward to seeing you at all of our functions next year. HFD held it's annual Christmas Banquet Monday, December 10th. Everyone had plenty to eat and enjoyed visiting each other. (as if we don't spend enough time together) Service awards were passed out to all the Firefighters. EMS of the year went to Ron Cole. Explorer of the year went to Jacob Smith. Firefighter of the year went to myself. For those of you who do not know, this year ends my career with HFD. I have spent 27 years and 7 months with the Department and I have come to a turning point in my life where I have made a decision to retire. I have made many friends over the last 27 years and I will not forget them. I will still be around for the Fish Fry and the Haunted House as well as helping with any other special projects. When I joined in May of 1980 we had 2 Forest Service Army trucks and a 1980 Dodge Power Wagon which operated out of the 94 Station. Today we have 2 stations and 8 trucks in which the Hudson Community can be very proud of. I have seen many improvements in the last 27 years and I know the fine men and women of OUR Department will continue to improve it. (posted 12-25-07)
Update We have taken delivery of the Ladder Truck from the City of Lufkin. This is something I thought I would never see. This has been made possible with the new law that allows a City to donate equipment to Volunteer Fire Departments. According to Chief Joe Burton, he took delivery on Monday July 14th. There will be a period of time that the ladder truck will not be fully functional. The truck will need some equipment put back on it as well as a fresh paint job so it will match our color scheme of red with the white strip. Chief Burton is hoping to have the unit fully functional within a year. (posted 7-20-08)
